Butter Studio collaborated with PUMA to lead the creative direction for the debut of their period-activewear collection in collaboration with Modibodi. We aimed to transform the conversation surrounding menstruation and athletics by creating a fresh, empowering campaign. To achieve this, we devised a comprehensive creative direction that covered every element of the worldwide campaign, from visual aesthetics to copy.

The final product was a comprehensive 50-page guideline book that acted as a blueprint for the global campaign. We provided specific instructions for all aspects of the campaign, including photo treatments, videos, and copy. Our creative direction was shared with local markets around the world, including Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and the US, to ensure consistent execution and cohesive brand messaging. Our collaboration with PUMA delivered a powerful campaign that redefined the conversation around periods and sports. Tavalo is reimagining what it means to rent. A responsible real estate developer that prioritizes quality of life for its residents, partner needs (cities, land sellers, investors), and every letter of E-S-G, Tavalo is at the forefront of the residential rental communities across the US. Butter distilled Tavalo's positioning in the market, target audiences, brand messaging, and visual identity to connect with those audiences. We applied all of this on to their website, social content, signage, and more. The end result? A brand that stands out in a crowded market and a partnership that proves the power of creative collaboration.

En Passant Digital is a Web3 strategy company founded by a former professional chess player. Butter Studio built a custom website design and brand identity to make it easy for potential clients to quickly understand the value EPD delivers to their clients.

We broke down their value propositions into key components, reframing jargon around NFTs into easy-to-understand messaging. On the visual front, we were inspired by the company’s roots in chess and developed the user interface design to reflect the grid of a chessboard: a series of squares that move dynamically as the user discovers what EPD can do for them. The overall result keenly focuses the user’s attention on what EPD can do for their businesses and conveys a sense of credibility and expertise through design.

They wanted a website that reflected their design-forward approach and founder's aesthetic vision. Imagine a pastoral landscape in southern France just on the edge of the ocean, surrounded by the peaks of the Pyrenees and you will be here, in the perfect trifecta of bliss, where we find the home of Naticco. Naticco is Occitan, a dialect spoken in the French Languedoc region, spelled backward. It is also a light and crisp Chardonnay brought to the US by Coeur Wine Co.

The packaging for Naticco represents the heritage of the region through a modern, lighthearted application. It is a place known for seafood, iconic cliffs, and bountiful plains. The undulating pattern on the label could be interpreted as the scales of a fish, the peaks of a mountain range, a sunset over a pasture, or all three. It is simple and bold. It asks to stand out on the shelf amongst a sea of traditionally French labels sporting portraits of linocut vineyards and fanciful script lettering. The pattern is complemented by simple, curved typography set in raised white foil to accentuate the movement across the label.

We supported Tilda, a sales consultancy, in launching their firm and in turn, fostering their mission to grow more businesses. 

Our unconventional approach to corporate deisgn captured the essence of Tilda's values and services, resulting in a website that not only won two prestigious Awwwards but also effectively showcases Tilda's expertise and attracts potential clients. 

We created a strong, feminine brand identity for Tilda, a 

 sales consultancy. The name was inspired by the Latin meaning of 'Matilda' which translates to "mighty in battle." Our logo conveys upward growth, using type with a wide 'D' and 'A.' We completed the visual identity with inspiring photo collages of cities and landscapes, resulting in an overarching tone of potential and scaling new heights.

At Butter Studio, we believe in designing for equity in sports, especially for women in the game. We partnered with Women in Soccer (WIS), a professional network connecting all women in and around football, to create a visual identity that breaks the male-dominated lens prevalent in sport, asserting women's power in the game and beyond.

Inspired by football culture's aesthetic traditions, such as kits, trading cards, signage, and team crests, we developed a design system that gives WIS a memorable personality that is both professional and fun. Our goal was to develop an identity that bridges professional with powerful.

The result is a visual identity that WIS proudly showcases on their website and marketing assets. By creating a face for the company, we helped WIS establish itself as a pioneer in driving equity in sports.

Butter Studio partnered with YTCW to create a website that showcased their psychedelic spirit of creativity, technical know-how, and genuine expertise. 

Our web design for YTCW is not just a website, but a reflection of the value they deliver to their clients through impressive creative execution and thoughtful collaboration. The re-brand was aimed at engaging a wider audience, including consumer and media, while still reflecting their core ethos: the power of human will.

With their rebranded identity, website, and messaging, we captured their mission of building an enduring firm that celebrates and amplifies the courage of entrepreneurs willing to go all-in to achieve greatness.

One of the most heartbreaking parts of the COVID-19 crisis is that many people are dying alone. Non-profit, COVID Tech Connect (CTC) was created to do something about this. The organization is working to equip hospitals and senior care facilities with smart devices and a HIPAA compliant video conferencing app, TeleHome, that allows COVID-19 patients to connect with their loved ones.

Butter had the privilege of working with CTC to design the UI/UX of the app as well as develop the brand identity. We heavily prioritized accessibility in our design choices—from color palette to type size, to layout, and icon design, given that our audience is largely elderly folks. With form following function, our second priority was to use the app's visual design as an opportunity to brighten a patient's day. We integrated whimsical illustrations that play on "connection," bridging cloud communication with analog technology.

How does the app work? It's pretty cool... There's no need for family members to download an app or create a login. Through the TeleHome app, patients send a one-time text message to their loved ones with a link to join a video call hosted on a web browser. Patients can access the app either on their mobile device or via one of the 20,000 devices that COVID Tech Connect is donating to hospitals and care facilities around the US.

Butter supported the debut of game changing, Black women owned, beauty brand 

 through creative direction of the product and lifestyle imagery for their launch. They are disrupting the industry by making quality wigs more accessible.

The concept for Waeve's photography was simple: to celebrate Black women and femmes' self expression and joy. The look is maximalist and luxurious, but approachable, meant to speak to a Millennial and Gen Z audience while conveying the premium quality of the wigs. The simplicity of the styling focuses the viewer on lustrous, silky hair and glowing skin, and the vibrant, playful and warm feeling captures the essence of the brand.

" is a reclamation of agency in beauty. It is a rejection of the idea that black women have to have a certain texture or style of hair in order to be considered beautiful or worthy. "Feel Good Hair" is the idea that beauty should be fun. Whether it’s natural, weave, long, short, curly, straight, black, green – feel good hair means you decide what makes you feel healthy and happy."

With their dreams on hold, this is what life looks like for top tier female athletes right now.

"She’s Going to Tokyo: 10 Athletes on Olympic Postponement, Lockdown, and Life While Waiting for the Next Summer Games,"

 is the visual expression of Butter's interviews with 10 female athletes. We spoke with them about the postponement, pandemic lockdown, and life while waiting for the next summer games. The project was released on our 

 during the two weeks in which the Olympics were supposed to take place this year (July 24 - August 9, 2020).

In April and May 2020 we interviewed 10 female Olympians (across sports and countries) who were planning to compete in the 2020 Tokyo summer games. The interviews focused on what we call the “Seven Senses,” sight, smell, taste, touch, sound, mind, and body. We wanted to know what the overlooked details of their day-to-day are, the little things that bring them joy and their ways of finding solace in the minutia.

The result is a series of graphics that reflect these conversations and capture this moment in history. It sheds light on how the strongest, most disciplined women among us are living right now, so that perhaps the rest of us can learn some lessons from them.

She's Going to Tokyo

Alma Mater Records, formerly “Hot Mom USA,” were in need of brand refresh that would harmonize the label with their ethos. The company wanted to preserve a mention of motherhood in the name through a sentiment more inclusive of the company’s values—feminists, LGBTQIA+ folks, and POC. We renamed the group Alma Mater, meaning “nourishing mother” in Latin. The name gave the brand an elevated image that resonates with youth culture, and stays true to the label’s maternal roots. The lions in the logo were inspired by the Greek goddess Cybele, who was referred to as “alma mater” during ancient times. Cybele’s lion-drawn chariot would cue wild music and disorderly, ecstatic scenes wherever the goddess would go. We loved this idea of ecstatic disorder and carried it into the rest of the identity, using collage elements, illustration, and bright colors.

Kettner Coffee Supply is Nashville’s destination for titillating coffee, sweets, and subversion. Located in the east-end of Nashville, Tennessee, hospitality veteran and founder Hannah Schneider wanted to create a coffee shop unlike any she’d experienced before in quality and aesthetic. Serving coffee made from the top two percent of the world’s best beans, Kettner prides itself on bringing Nashville premium coffee at an accessible price.

Here at Butter Studio, we rose to the challenge of developing unexpected branding and identity design that satisfies Kettner’s appetite for something memorable and unique. Designing an experience that would resonate with the myriad creatives and young professionals flocking to Nashville, the brand celebrates nuances of Nashvillians, native and new, and Kettner’s female-led team. The brand is equal parts feminist, modern, and fun.

The system touches key pieces of the Kettner Coffee experience, from our packaging design of cheeky coffee cups to a thought-provoking menu and soft serve container, merchandise with illustrative innuendos, and ink on skin—the brand spoke to Schneider so much, she now has a tattoo of one of our illustrations and taglines. The identity creates an experience as tempting as sneaking out for a mid-afternoon coffee or savoring a forbidden treat.

Racket Club, an audio production agency with studios in NYC, LA, and Atlanta, approached Butter Studio to create a website that would reflect their expertise and the growth of the company. To achieve this goal, we designed a sleek single-page site that emphasizes Racket's impressive portfolio. Our team utilized animation and micro-interactions to create an engaging and dynamic user experience, while maintaining a clean and organized layout that directs the user's attention to Racket's work. The result is a polished and professional online presence that accurately showcases Racket Club's capabilities and expertise.

Flex Mussels is a Manhattan restaurant staple serving globally inspired seafood from coast to coast. Flex’s speciality: the freshest, plumpest mussels from Prince Edward Island, cooked in a variety of 23 extraordinary sauces.

The restaurant is a family establishment with origins in PEI, Canada—a picturesque fishing island notable for its vibrant colors, marine-inspired architecture, and diverse landscape. Butter Studio crafted the concept for Flex’s new brand identity design, which is inspired by all things PEI. The Flex team wanted to capture the roots of the restaurant, which started as a storefront on PEI before making its way to Manhattan as the family’s 23rd restaurant ten plus years ago.

A cheeky quality is carried through the brand, from the illustrations to logos, colors, and taglines. Brand collateral features whimsical illustrations of characters you’d see fishing and frolicking on PEI beaches, as well as island architecture and natural gems. Geometric compositions inspired by nautical flags and colors found on PEI are interspersed throughout the system. Flex menus are full of surprises, intended to bring a sense of discovery and delight to each guest as they flip through. The structure of the menu was thoughtfully considered to maximize ease of use for the restaurant, sustainability, and the guest experience.

Dashboard.earth is an app that teaches citizens how to take micro-actions towards climate change mitigation. We partnered with the founder, Gaya Roshan, to create the UI/UX and mobile app design. Part e-learning, part social network, and part game, the app encompasses a robust feature-set. It includes an interactive map that allows users to applaud each other's actions, messaging, and a gamified-list of accomplishments and actions.

Butter Studio approached the process using an agile workflow, workshopping designs with the Dashboard.earth team frequently to incorporate learnings from user testing, external stakeholders and investors, and the founding team into all of our user experience and brand design decisions.

A vibrant rooftop bar at the top of the Hu. Hotel in central Memphis, Tennessee. This hotel provides the ideal setting for a sunset rooftop cocktail. With an unparalleled panoramic outlook of Memphis and the majestic Mississippi River, visitors are in for a treat. Explore the Memphis-inspired brand illustrations and packaging design our design studio created for this spirited cocktail bar!

A cozy and cool place to meet, talk or work for a while. Lucy's welcomes guests of the Hu. Hotel in central Memphis, neighbors, locals and passerbys to pop in for a bite, a drink, or a chat.

The Hu. Hotel shut its doors in early 2020 due to Covid-19, and only decided to reopen for business last fall. That meant, according to hotel leadership, a fresh start for a dining program that needed to make an impact after more than a year out of the public eye. Owners the Aparium Hotel Group brought in Kevin Williams to lead the charge as executive chef, and Lucy’s has flourished during his first couple months at the helm.

Hi Fi Athletics is a boxing-inspired streetwear brand for women. Created for those who have historically been marginalized in combat sports, its intention is to expand their space in boxing culture, encouraging them to make it their own.

The brand speaks to innovation rooted in tradition. It pays homage to the look and feel established throughout the history of boxing, but subverts it as lifestyle-forward and customized for women. Hi Fi is inspired by the flamboyant, flashy, loud, over-the-top aesthetic of boxing culture: the robes, the shorts, the silk, tassels, and patches that adorn traditional garments worn in the ring. They push the boundaries of boxing culture by adding something new, through style, approach, and mentality.

Bluebird Kitchen is a venture led by Chef Albert DiMeglio, renowned for his work at NYC restaurants Barano and Rubirosa. Butter Studio worked with Chef Al and team to create the visual identity for their new venture, a refined but friendly eatery on Long Island.

We created a series of illustrations of our bluebird hanging out around New York. From surfing at the Rockaways to shopping on Madison Avenue to gossiping with its friends over cocktails. The playful nature of the illustrations helps the friendly vibe of the restaurant come to life on signage, packaging, and on their website.

As the pandemic swept through New York City, its profound impact on immigrant communities, particularly Latin American residents, was often overshadowed by other news headlines. Determined to preserve their stories and shed light on the broader impact, film companies Documented and Waterwell embarked on a mission to capture NYC's Latinx voices during this unprecedented time through their film, Pandemia.

"Pandemia" delves deep into the emotional landscape of the pandemic's enduring effects on New York's Latin American immigrant communities, exploring the lasting economic and social repercussions that will shape their lives for years to come. Our website design complements this powerful narrative by presenting a factual landscape that highlights the stark realities and data surrounding the pandemic's impact on the city as a whole.

We designed an informative online platform replete with infographics and clips from the film, to provide an immersive experience for visitors to delve into Pandemia's multifaceted story. Join us on this compelling journey as we honor voices and experiences that deserve to be heard and remembered. Other Half Brewing was born of a vision to brew New York beer with the effort and thoughtfulness representative of the “Other Half” of the industry. Today, Other Half produces craft beers in Brooklyn while collaborating with other breweries, local and global. Elevating their craft with every partnership, Other Half brings the hopped fruits of their labor back to the Brooklyn taproom.

Building off of Other Half’s quirky, bright, poppy brand, Butter created packaging for a number of Other Half’s short run brews—a limited supply of beers often produced in collaboration with partner breweries. Short run labels feature playful illustrations like dolphins and dentures for a Florida retiree-themed brew and metallic materials for added tactile pizazz. Our engagement evolved into an ongoing partnership; Butter designs 5+ labels monthly for the brewery as well as materials for Other Half’s bi-annual beer festivals. From packaging to event signage, our goal is always to ladder up to the unexpected nature of Other Half’s beer, creating visual experiences beer aficionados everywhere will enjoy.

Simple Syrup is a local Crown Heights, Brooklyn neighborhood wine shop. They believe that wine is for everyone and want everyone to feel welcomed into their space. 

We created inviting storefront signage and a flexible system of visual assets that immediately welcomes passersby into their space. We used playful illustrations of things like wine in plastic cups being held by monster hands to convey the approachability of the shop.
